Why Is This Really Only A Thing In Sports?

I’ve noticed something that happens in sports every day, every week, every month, and every year. For the most part, this specific thing is only a thing in the sports world. It is something that fans do with their favorite sports teams that those same people don’t do in the rest of their lives. Maybe someone can read on and explain to me why that is. You’ll see me use the Cleveland Browns fanbase as the example fanbase as they are the ones who have had to deal with this for the longest period of time right now.
Sports fans will stay loyal to their favorite sports team no matter what. It doesn’t matter if the franchise has been a clown show for 5 years, 20 years, or their entire time on Earth. Those fans will continue to buy merchandise of the team, spend thousands of dollars to go to games, spend many hours watching the games, reading about the game, and watching videos of highlights no matter how terrible their team is and no matter how long they are terrible. Why? They don’t do this anywhere else in their life. What do I mean by this?
If you go to a restaurant and the food sucks and the service is terrible, you might go back and give them another shot once or twice, but if that bad product and service continues, you will never go back. That’s what fans like the Browns fans do. They return every Sunday to the shitty restaurant with bad food and bad service. Why? If you bought a specific pair of shoes and shortly after you bought them, the bottoms blew out and it was too late to return them, you MIGHT go back and buy another of the same pair thinking it was just random. However, if you went out and bought the same specific pair again once or twice more and the same thing kept happening, you wouldn’t continue to buy those shoes. You’ve realized that the product is trash and you’ll stop wasting your time and money. Browns fans and fans of similar franchises across all sports in history keep buying the shoes that suck. If you are dating someone and you find out they are a liar or a cheater, or simply just not a good person, you may give them a chance the first time, but mostly you don’t. You cut ties and go find someone who fits your morals, values, respect, and loyalty. You don’t stick around to be in a shit relationship when you get nothing but heartache in return. So, why do fans of extremely crappy franchises stick around for piss poor values, no respect for their own fans, and dumpster performances of a team, but not anywhere else? Why is that the line? Why is that misery what you allow with no happy end in sight? Make it make sense. I’ve always wondered this. WHY!?
