NFL: Real Super Bowl Contenders

“There is always next year!” A lot of teams live by this year after year, and a lot of these NFL franchises will probably never get past this and it will never be true. As we start coming down the back stretch of the NFL season and the playoff picture starts to become clearer by the week, we are starting to see who has a real shot at being a contender. Here are the JayBird Talks list of five teams that are contenders with a dark horse thrown in there as well.

  1. San Francisco 49ers – They are dominating the NFC West and have both a tough defense, but also a lot of weapons on offense making them our leader to this point.

  2. Kansas City Chiefs – They haven’t always looked good, but they are leading the AFC West and I’m not going to count out Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid quite yet.

  3. Philadelphia Eagles – Despite getting blown out at home by the 49ers this week, this Philly team still has the coach and the players to get back to the Super Bowl again. They know what it takes to get there. They currently hold a slight edge in the NFC East.

  4. Dallas Cowboys – One of the hottest teams in the entire NFL right now and probably the best team at home this year. Nobody is going to want to see them in the playoffs as they continue to build momentum down the stretch. They are right behind the Eagles in their Division.

  5. Miami Dolphins – They are in full control of the AFC East and that offense can put up points in bunches and in a hurry. They have a good defense and if they can stay consistent, they’ll have a real shot at getting there.

Dark Horse:

  • Baltimore Ravens – They are sitting atop the rough AFC North at 9-3. They show glimpses of being able to compete at that Super Bowl level and then they show moments of ineptitude. What Ravens team is going to finish out the regular season?
