NFL: Quarterbacks; Which Can Win SOME Games & Which Can Win THE Games
We say it all the time. The quarterback position is the most important position in all of sports. Some got it and some don’t. Some can win you some games and then there are the ones that can win you THE games. If you don’t know the difference, I’ll take a sandwich and bring me another beer please. Here is who can and who can’t.
Some = Can win you some games, sometimes even a lot of games, but lacks something to get to the top.
THE = Has, will, or can win your team THE games.
None = Trash.
Without further ado:
Patrick Mahomes – THE – Most obvious of them all nowadays.
Aaron Rodgers – THE – He’s done it before.
Zach Wilson – Some – It’s barely some and borders on none.
Derek Carr – Some – A very good QB, but don’t think he can win the big game.
Kirk Cousins – Some – That’s about it. As plain as it gets.
Geno Smith – Some – Solid, but haven’t seen a next step in him.
Joe Burrow – THE – Got there, but needs kept upright and off the injury report.
Jordan Love – Some – This could easily change.
Baker Mayfield – Some – He can be really good, but he’s too inconsistent, and lacks eliteness to be in the top tier. Get off of it already. He’ll win you a lot of games, but not THE games.
Dak Prescott – Some – It could change, but I haven’t seen it stick long enough to.
Ryan Tannehill – Some – Barely some.
Jared Goff – Some – Vanilla. No “it” factor.
Desmond Ridder – Some – I just don’t see it.
Kyler Murray – Some – Ultra athletic without the want to hit next level.
Justin Fields – Some – Nobody could win more than a few with that Chicago Bears franchise. They have turned into a career ruining spot.
Justin Herbert – Some – Another one that could change at any time. Has the tools and talent for the next level.
Daniel Jones – None – Awful.
Jalen Hurts – THE – Got within inches of finishing it all off. Has what it takes.
Sam Howell – Some – Limited toolbox.
Kenny Pickett – Some – Not impressive enough.
Josh Allen – Some – He’s one of the closet of the “some” group to take the next step and it could happen at any second.
Lamar Jackson – Some – Pretty similar to the top of this “some” group like Josh Allen is. On the cusp.
Mac Jones – None – And nobody likes him. Not good.
Brock Purdy – Some – All he’d have to do is manage the game and his weapons to fall into the, “THE” level.
Russell Wilson – Some – Used to be a THE, but has regressed pretty badly. I think his window is closing to get back.
Matthew Stafford – THE – Once he was put into the right situation it all showed up.
Anthony Richardson – Some – Still too new and green to tell.
Bryce Young – Some – Also too new to tell, but hasn’t been in the best of spots so far.
CJ Stroud – Some – Looks great so far, but another too young and soon to tell. Might be the furthest along in his class.
Joshua Dobbs – Some – Will probably end up as a high end backup in this league.
Jimmy Garoppolo – Some – Good not great. He’ll win you a lot of games, but not THE.
Trevor Lawrence – THE – Has what it takes physically and mentally. Has shown he can handle bad and win. Barring injury, he’ll be a great.
Deshaun Watson – Some – I think his time has passed to being next level elite to THE status. Manage and survive at this point.
Tua Tagovailoa – Some/The – Hardest one to pick. Has been a some guy so far in his career, but it’s looking like if he stays upright and out of concussion protocol he has THE in him. Time will tell now.
