CFB: Week 1 Reactions

The official opening weekend for College Football has finally made it here, and we made it through. Per the usual for this time of year, there were quite a few blowouts, a few upsets, and a few really good games. Whichever one your team fell under, we can all agree it’s great to have College Football back in full force. The best part was I was able to watch more games than usual in a given weekend. So, I came up with five takeaways from week one.

  1. The Georgia Bulldogs defense is absolutely FILTHY, and I don’t see anyone being able to keep them from winning a national championship right now. Of course things can be overplayed, or God forbid, an important player having to miss time for whatever reason. However, if all stays true to form, then UGA is the clear cut number one team in the Nation right now.

  2. The Ohio State Buckeye’s new Quarterback Will Howardis a huge upgrade at that position for them from last year. He’s bigger, stronger, faster, and adds another threat from that position that they just didn’t have with last year’s guy.

  3. Ohio State’s true freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is AS ADVERTISED! He was the number recruit in the entire country coming out of High School, and yes, it was only Akron, but the talent jumped off the screen to people that truly know what they saw.

  4. The USC Trojans may be better sooner than people thought. They were the underdog against the LSU Tigers. Not only did they beat LSU, but they looked poised and in-control of the moment when those moments came in the back and forth, close game, that saw the Trojans win by a final score of 27-20.

  5. The Florida State Seminoles came into this season as the #10 ranked team in the country. They were also most people’s favorites to win the ACC and walk into a College Football Playoff spot. It looks as though they’ll have a hard enough time playing .500 ball. They are already 0-2 after being upset by two non-ranked opponents to open the season. The first was in “week zero” on a special game in Ireland where the world saw the Noles fall to Georgia Tech 24-21, and now in the official week one getting beaten down by Boston College, by a final of 28-13. They are at risk, if they are not already in being considered trash.

HONORABLE MENTION:

With this new conference realignment, it looks like this Big Ten vs SEC talk will really heat up in the coming years. Especially after the Big Ten opened the season with an overall record of 16-1. This is about to be really fun, and I’m so excited to watch it all unfold as the new teams fall into their new schedules and alignments.
