“UNC Brought Back Down To Earth” – The previously undefeated Tar Heels who really started getting true College Football national attention has been stopped dead in their tracks. North Carolina fell to Virginia 31-27 as the Cavaliers only had one win on the entire season up to that point. What made it even worse was UNC was on their home field. We shall see how Maye and company respond after their first loss to such a lowly opponent.
“Ohio State Takes Down Penn State…Again” – Even though the Nittany Lions have only beat the Buckeyes one time in the last 12/13 contests, a lot of those have been close battles that has made for great football. This particular game put both teams inside the top eight at the time of kickoff as OSU was number three and PSU was at number seven. Ohio State finished them off by a final of 20-12 in a great defensive game. Now the team out of Columbus controls their own destiny in the Big Ten.
“The Heisman Race Is Now Wide Open” – First it was the defending Heisman winner in USC quarterback Caleb Williams, but he’s fallen off as his last two performances have been beyond subpar. Then there were whispers of Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders becoming a finalist in that race, but that too has fallen off as the hype train with the Buffaloes has gotten knocked around. The next has been Washington QB Michael Penix Jr who has had an amazing year getting his Huskies within the top 10 in the country as well. He has now had a bad game and brought his chance into question, although I still have him as the frontrunner in my opinion. The other is Michigan QB JJ McCarthy, but I just can’t get there even though the Wolverines are still unbeaten. This could obviously change, but UM hasn’t played anyone that three guys on a street corner couldn’t beat to this point in their schedule. Now that changes in the coming weeks at they’ll have to handle Penn State and Ohio State and that will give us a better look at McCarthy in that aspect. As always, time will tell.
