All the rumors and speculation can now come to an end. On the last day to declare for the NFL Draft, Ohio State Buckeyes star quarterback CJ Stroud finally announced he is declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft. The Junior QB did what is done these days and announced it via a letter on social media. I don’t think anyone is really surprised by how long it took CJ to make his decision. He’s a kid with strong faith and seems to be in-tune with careful decision-making, doing things for the right reasons, and not just following the crowd off of split decisions.
The Buckeye quarterback was a two-time Heisman Finalist and is considered a top prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft. Stroud finishes his career in Columbus with a record of 21-4 and leaves campus with 16 school records in passing and total offense. He finishes with 85 touchdown passes and only 12 interceptions. Stroud does leave Ohio State having not won The Game against Michigan or having won a Big Ten Championship; two things that have become an annual celebration for Buckeye Nation for quite awhile, up until the last 2 seasons. Strouds response to those that will bring that up, “I just have to eat it.” He will now become the school’s third straight starting quarterback to be a first-round pick. The two prior to him were most recently Justin Fields who went number 11 overall in 2021 and Dwayne Haskins number 15 in 2019.
As of right now CJ Stroud is projected to be a top-5 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Now we wait and see as there are still Pro Days and the NFL Combine upcoming for colleges and prospects alike to fall on the board or to climb the draft board.
