CFB: Ohio State At Northwestern Takeaways

The Ohio State Buckeyes went on the road for the final time this regular season and defeated Big Ten foe, the Northwestern Wildcats in Wrigley Field by a final score of 31-7. With a Top-5 showdown scheduled for next week, and rival Michigan the week after; the big thing for the Buckeyes was not to look ahead. There would be a lot of things to cover in this game, but I came up with five takeaways from this Saturday’s Noon game in Chicago.

  1. Northwestern had a great game plan to beat Ohio State. They just didn’t do a good job of executing it past the 1st quarter.

  2. The Buckeyes did a good job of withstanding the initial punch from the Wildcats, and made the adjustments and big plays to turn the tide.

  3. NU in the 2nd half not changing the game plan from low and slow, to a more upbeat catch-up plan was basically admitting defeat on their first possession of the 3rd quarter. Made no sense.

  4. Will Howard continues to play really good, efficient football at the Quarterback position.

  5. It was AWESOME seeing OSU WR Carnell Tate show out in his hometown in front of friends and family for everything he’s been through. 🙏

The Buckeyes now head home for the final two games of the regular season with a spot in the Big Ten title game on the line. Both of the games will be Noon kickoffs against Top-5 and undefeated opponent Indiana, and then, of course, THE GAME against rival Michigan.
